“A solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice each year, when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is most inclined toward or away from the Sun, causing the Sun’s apparent position in the sky to reach its northernmost or southernmost extreme. The name is derived from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstices, the Sun stands still in declination; that is, the apparent movement of the Sun’s path north or south comes to a stop before reversing direction.” – WikiPedia Solstice

Valley Below

Towering above Cache Valley below, the Wellsville Mountains stand at 9372 ft – Photo Taken June 2009 – Logan Utah

Extremely rugged they are considered by some to be the steepest mountain range in the United States. The range is very narrow, only about 5 miles wide at its widest point, and rise from 4,500 ft. on either side to an elevation of 9,372 ft. at Box Elder Peak. The range has no foothills so from either side it appears to be a giant mountainous wall rising directly from the valley floor. Source: Summitpost.org
